An Open BibleHaving grown up in Canada in a Christian family, to me the names Watchman Nee and Witness Lee never truly sounded foreign or unfamiliar. From a young age, I became quite accustomed to hearing their names mentioned in church meetings as well as amongst my own relatives. Yet, for a while, who these names referred to remained a mystery to me. As a child, however, I do remember receiving the impression that these two men had to have done or were currently doing something significant in order to earn the love, respect, deep appreciation, thankfulness and high regard of many of those surrounding me. It was not until I started high school that I realized for myself why the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee meant so much to so many believers in Christ. I began reading the Bible when I was ten years old. Starting in 9th grade, however, I also began to read the literature publications of Witness Lee. The first book I picked up and read was The All-Inclusive Christ. Concerning this book, I must say that my response was surprising. What I expected were doctrinal lessons on Jesus Christ. What I ultimately received were life-filled messages that unveiled a vast, unlimited, extensive and unsearchably rich Christ, as typified by the land of Canaan in the Old Testament. For years I had been reading about the land flowing with milk and honey in the Bible. Little did I know that this land is just a picture of Christ. This One is for His chosen people to enter into, possess, inherit, enjoy and experience. Reading The All-Inclusive Christ stirred up a desire within me to know and experience the Lord in a deeper way. Consequently, I began to read more of Witness Lee's publications and eventually the writings of Watchman Nee as well. When he was alive, I attended conferences and trainings held by Witness Lee. Why would a young person spend so much time in these things? It is because the ministry of both these brothers in the Lord opens the Bible in a most marvelous way. What I could never have seen through my own study of the Bible, they saw. What they saw, they spoke about, ministered, preached and shared with others. It is such a privilege to have been exposed to their ministry, for it is through the labor of these faithful brothers in the Bible that my love for the Lord, His Church and His Word have continued to increase more and more. The ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee stir up a hunger for the Lord within me and at the same time, supplies me with nothing less than this unsearchably rich and abundant One who is most satisfying.
